AP Physics refers to a set of college-level physics courses and exams offered through the College Board’s Advanced Placement program. There are four AP Physics courses: AP Physics 1, AP Physics 2, AP Physics C: Mechanics, and AP Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism. AP Physics 1 and AP Physics 2 are algebra-based, while the AP Physics C courses are calculus-based.

AP Physics 1:

  • This is an algebra-based introductory physics course that covers mechanics, work, energy, power, and waves.
  • It includes hands-on laboratory work and focuses on investigating phenomena.
  • It is intended to be similar to a one-semester algebra-based university course in mechanics.
  • The course content is covered in Units 1-7, with Units 8-10 no longer tested (as they are covered in AP Physics 2).
